Buck

The protagonist for my book is Buck, a large mix breed stolen from his home and forced into stupidly hard work and a cruel environment, forced to succumb to his natural instincts to survive. As the main character, and a dog no less, I want to definitely consider using Buck within my work.

In researching what I believe he would look like, especially compared to his companions/enemies throughout the book, I found a vast difference traits and anatomy wise. While yes, the Huskies and Buck have the same anatomy as both are dogs, Buck's physical traits are very different. Buck's breeds, specifically the St Bernard, is very large and made for the harsh winter environments. With a thick coat, powerful muscles and the mixed slim/not droopy statue from the Shepard breed he is mixed with, he is bred for the environment and work asked of him. But where Buck favours strength, he lacks (especially in the beginning of the book) stamina and speed. The Huskies have the advantage there. Looking specifically at the antagonist Spike, a believed to be Siberian Husky, he is powerful because of his speed and stamina. While he does have strength, he doesn't compare to Buck physically and could only beat him for so long because of his mind and speed. Huskies also have very thick fur and powerful buddies, which make them perfect for the harsh environments of the book also. All of this in mind, I would like to consider this then designing Buck myself for future products.
