Branding

Image
Branding Throughout this module, we were tasked with looking into our personal branding. I found this a continuous struggle as I wanted to take a personal approach, to create branding that represents me and my work as a combined piece. I started with creating a mind map to consider what I could include within my branding, which could be both my logo and business cards. I mostly brainstormed things I love personally, or love to draw, and how I could create these things. Whilst this did help narrow in on some ideas, I still struggled. I decided to create a few business card ideas to inspire me, as they're very creative and I could ask around with my peers and family to see which people as a collective prefer. The three below are the final sketch ideas I came up with for the business card designs. The designs are all based off of parts of my art style, although the second design is focused more on me personally as the dog is my pet. The girl portrait was based off of a Pinterest photo...

Research

Research During this week, I decided to go through the book once again and really focus on the information being given to me, and on all of the moments I needed to know, and remember. Going through, along with some help from websites and videos, I came up with a specifically made timeline that I'm really happy with. While it may look like a lot from a glance, it is colour coded and set out with arrows to follow, in order from start of the book, to the end. I made sure to include all of the particularly important characters throughout the book, highlighting the names to ensure I remember them. This will come in very handy as I move forward, as after my research process progresses, I'll start looking into what visual developments need to be made, and what exactly I would like to create to sell, of which will be based off of this timeline. Along with this, I did some deeper research into the Author, and all the potential important themes included and behind this book. I found this...

Beyond The Narrative

Image
Beyond the narrative In this lecture, we were asked to consider how we could change and reimagine our narrative. For my narrative, I believe I could reimagine it in a few different ways. For one, I could follow Disney's adaptation and make the narrative and its themes much softer, less harsh and visual. I could imagine Buck as a kinder soul, a forgiving animal, unlike in the original book. On the other hand, I could imagine the narrative being much darker than it was made, much more gruesome, cruel and sad. I could make Buck nasty with the betrayals and pains he goes through, an unforgiving, tortured animal. Or, in other ways, I could make the narrative more child friendly. Although technically classed as a children's book already, I could aim it to much younger audiences, with cartoon animals and a simpler storyline.  I would like to consider some of these ideas moving forward, wanting to push the boundaries a bit with this narrative, and create emotions for my audiences.  - ...

Reading & Research

Reading & Researching Over the weekend I listened to the full audiobook of the book 'The Call of the Wild' by Jack London, my chosen narrative for the brief. For the first read through I focused more on the book rather then making notes on what's going on. I actually really enjoyed this book, it being really different to the Disney film adaptation. Where the Disney film went very sweet and loving, the book is darker and more realistic, really focusing on the grit of survival.  Once I finished the book, I made simple notes and sketch from my initial thoughts. Writing the key moments I could remember, and initial product ideas from simply reading the book will give me a base to work off of, and research into. I will be rereading this book as to take some fleshed out and detailed notes from the narrative, but am happy with my understanding/knowledge for now.

Introduction to the Brief

Image
Intro to brief In this lesson, we were introduced to our brief and given the large list of classic novels to pick from. With this list, we were put into groups and asked to choose books from the list and write anything we knew down. In doing this, I gained a good insight into what books I immediately wasn't interested in, and which I potentially was. From this, and advice already given, I knew straight away I didn't want to do any of the popular and well known titles. Many having recreations from Disney or many recreations, it would be harder to choose something I have already seen a lot of, or am very familiar with. So with this, I immediately liked the sound of 'The Call of the Wild' by Jack London. I will be researching and reading into this book more.
